Spring Sports Recap

Men's Golf

At the 2023 NCHSAA 3A Boys Golf State Championships, notably representing Cabarrus County Schools in the individual standings was Northwest Cabarrus’ Cooper Burris and Talan Harrison. Burris finished T6 at four-over for the tournament while Harrison finished tied for 12th place.

Baseball

In the 4A NCHSAA Baseball Tournament, Hickory Ridge beat Southwest Guilford in the 1st Round 14-2 before falling to Cuthbertson in the 2nd Round.

In the 3A Division, NW Cabarrus won their 1st Round game outscoring Ashe County 13-2.  Mount Pleasant also won their 1st Round game in the 2A Division beating Madison 13-3.

Softball

Hickory Ridge played for the 4A Softball Championship, starting out strong by shutting out Apex 3-0 in the first game of the Championship Series.  Game 2 was tied until the last inning when Apex walked-off with a two-run hit and Apex rallied in the 7th inning of Game 3 to make Hickory Ridge the Championship runner-up.

On the way to the championship, the Ragin’ Bulls shut out Sun Valley 15-0, McDowell 3-0, and Ardrey Kell 8-0 and held Northwest Guilford and Marvin Ridge to one run each. They finished the 2023 season 27-3. Grace Bechtol from Hickory Ridge was named a 4A Softbal Sportsmanship Award winner.

In the 3A & 2A NCHSAA Softball Tournaments, Central Cabarrus earned a 1st Round game in the 3A Division while Mt Pleasant beat North Stanley 12-2 and Burns 4-0 before falling one run short to Southwestern Randolph in the 2A Division.

Women's Soccer

Cox Mill and Hickory Ridge women’s soccer teams represented Cabarrus County Schools in the NCHSAA 4A Women’s Soccer Tournament.  Cox Mill triumphed over Reagan 3-2 and Watauga 2-0 before meeting Hough in the 3rd Round.

In the 3A Division, Central Cabarrus shut out Pisgah 3-0 in the first round before meeting Hickory in the 2nd Round.

Track & Field

Men's Track & Field

At the 4A Men’s Track & Field Championships, Cox Mill and Hickory Ridge both had teams competing in the 4×100 Meter Relay.  Hickory Ridge’s team of 1) Dominic Testa, 2) Rashardo Wallace, 3) Mekhi Hayes, and 4) Brandon McClary finished 4th while Cox Mill’s team of 1) Tiane Love,  2) Genesis Hall, 3) Jeremiah Jones, and 4) Zaiyon Evans took 6th place.

In the 2A Division, Sencere Davis, Kemauri Pinkston, DeAndre Jones, Cameron Tucker and Camden Camp combined to represent Jay M Robinson in the 4X100 and the 4×200 Meter Relays.

Women's Track & Field

Lily Houston of Northwest Cabarrus brings home gold at the 3A Women’s Track & Field Championships vaulting to first place with a jump of 11-06.00.

Central Cabarrus‘ Sydney Kraus had two top finishes, taking 3rd place in the Long Jump and 5th in the Triple Jump. 

At the 4A Women’s Track & Field Championships, the Hickory Ridge team of  1) Amya Leathers, 2) Mckencee Cook, 3) Nyla Bitting, and 4) Erica Mcclary finished sixth in the 4×200 Meter Relay.

Qualifying to compete in the 2A Division for the 4×100 Meter Relay was Jay M Robinson team of 1) Alexia Johnson, 2) Chelsea McLeod, 3) Alivia Johnson, and 4) Coryn Tucker.
