Preventing and Addressing Burnout in HS Athletes

The pressure put on student-athletes as they navigate sports, academics, and a social life can be daunting at times. 

There are numerous benefits to playing sports in high school such as improving moods, developing necessary life skills, and a sense of belonging. 

However, what can happen when student athletes begin to feel burned out?

Athlete burnout is defined as “a multidimensional, cognitive-affective syndrome characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion, reduced sense of accomplishment, and sport devaluation” (Williams & Krane, 2020, p. 476).
